AFC Fylde sign quartet
AFC Fylde have completed an ambitious transfer swoop
AFC Fylde have completed an ambitious transfer swoop with 4 new signings in readiness for the 2010-2011 Season.
This weekend they have completed the signings of defender Ricky Mercer from Blue Square North side Hyde Utd, Strikers Tom Cahill and Andy Bell from Blue Square Premier neighbours Fleetwood Town. Central defender Michael Stringfellow completed the quartet after being prized away from Unibond North play off finalists Lancaster City where he was skipper last season.
Kelham O’Hanlon is delighted he has finally landed his long term targets his first signings since becoming Fylde Boss last season. “ We have targeted these players and watched them for some time and I am delighted to get them signed up this week. It was important for us to bring in the right players in terms of quality, experience and the right characters and all four of the lads have that in abundance. They have all played at a higher level before and have been successful at their respective clubs. Added to the nucleus of the quality young players we already have at the club I’m looking forward to working with them in what promises to be an exciting season ahead.”
Club President David Haythornthwaite said “Three of these players Bell, Stringfellow and Mercer are players we tried to sign at various stages last season. However for many reasons we couldn’t but throughout still remained our key targets. Fortunately Cahill also became available and he will add more quality in front of goal as he has proved at this level and higher. We are therefore over the moon at being able to bring in such proven quality to the team. We have always promised our supporters that we will continuously improve the club both on and off the field and these signings show a further level of our commitment.”
Mercer, Cahill and Bell made their debuts in last weekend’s 3-1 win against Fulwood in their first pre-season friendly.
