Sheffield Football Club - The World’s First Football Club recently collected another prestigious award recognising its achievements working within communities both locally and internationally.
Head of Brand Guy Higton and Club Development Manager Lee Walshaw attended the XIV Premio Internazionale “FAIR PLAY AWARDS” held in the medieval Tuscan town of Cortona to receive the award in ‘The Sport and Solidarity’ category.
The Fair Play Movement is active in 40 countries across Europe and works closely with the International Olympic Committees promoting fair play values and principles. President of the European Fair Play Movement, Carlos Goncalves said;” There are no doubts that you have fulfilled your responsibilities towards Fair Play in sport arenas, as well as in society paying a relevant contribution to sport as a tool of socialisation, social cohesion and mutual understanding.”
In a star studded glittering ceremony held outdoors in the Town square and broadcast live on Italian TV, Sheffield FC proudly took its place alongside other winners including Italian Football legends Paolo Rossi and Gianni Rivera, Egyptian Olympic swimmer Rania Elwani and South African Blade Runner Oscar Pistorius who received the night’s biggest ovation.
Lee Walshaw added; “It was an incredible event and an honour to be a part of such an evening. It makes all the hard work of everybody connected with Sheffield FC worthwhile. To be recognised by such a high profile organisation for our projects at home and throughout Africa makes us even more determined to deliver and hopefully influence peoples’ lives for the better.”
