Bishop invited to promotion party
Witton Albion
Comedian John Bishop could be back in a Witton Albion shirt to celebrate his former club's promotion back to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s top tier.
The promotion party takes place next month with Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) and Northwich Town Council jointly hosting a civic reception to congratulate the club for its achievement last season.
The Norwthich Guardian reports that Albion players and officials have been invited to the town’s memorial hall on Sunday, August 12 from midday.
"Witton have brought great credit to the borough with their success and both councils want to honour that," said CWAC leader Clr Mike Jones, who revealed that Bishop, one of the club's most famous former players, had been invited.
The comedian still has his skills, showing his undoubted talent off reguarly at footballing charity events like Soccer Aid.
Clr Jones added: "We’d love as many fans as possible to turn up to greet the team as it arrives."
Brian Pritchard’s team defeated Curzon Ashton in a promotion play-off final back in April to book a return to the Northern Premier League’s top flight after a three year absence.
It also marks the first time in the club’s history that it will play at a higher level in the football's Pyramid than neighbours Northwich Victoria.
