Nantwich Town are offering one off sponsorship deals for their sixtieth anniversary commemorative match with Manchester United.
The Dabbers welcome the Red Devils to the Weaver Stadium on Tuesday 25 September to mark the anniversary of Manchester United’s record-breaking 23-0 victory over Nantwich in the FA Youth Cup.
The remarkable night back in 1952 saw the legendary Duncan Edwards score for the first time in a Manchester United jersey. It was also the inaugural season of the FA Youth Cup and Edwards inspired the Busby Babes to what is still a record win in the competition.
Edwards had just turned 16 years of age but he netted five times on the historic evening at United’s training ground at The Cliff, Broughton.
David Pegg and John Doherty also scored five times in a United line-up that included Albert Scanlon and Ronnie Cope – names that were to become Old Trafford legends.
Ronnie went on to play for Nantwich in the twilight of his career and now, aged 77, will be Guest of Honour for the match. And his counterpart, Frank Stubbs, the Nantwich number 10 who came up against centre-half Cope on that wet November night, will also be a Guest of Honour as the pair meet up again 60 years on.
The club is now offering a range of sponsorship packages for the evening from ‘Man of the Match’ and matchball sponsor to full match sponsorship. Mascot packages are also available for youngsters to lead the teams out.
"Everyone at Nantwich Town is delighted that Manchester United are sending a side to mark the occasion," said Nantwich Chairman Jon Gold. "That Youth Cup match 60 years ago lives on in football folklore."
