Leek Town are strengthening their community links with the launch of a host of new junior teams including two new girls sides and another one in the pipeline.
To mark the arrival of a ladies section at the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South club, Town's U12s and U15s girls will walk out with the first team next Wednesday night [August 1] when the Blues take on Port Vale before entertaining fans at half-time with their footballing skills.
The Leek Town U12s are managed by Dan Sheldon and the U15 by Tony Wretham. The Blues now hope to add a girls U8s team.
In another new venture, Blues U17s - Leek Town Meadows Tigers - will play in the Staffordshire ‘Ability Counts’ League this season as well as in friendly games organised with other clubs.
Over the past year Blues have established close links with The Meadows School and say they’re looking forward to strengthening those links.
Other newly formed teams joining under the Leek Town banner are the U7s Warriors, coached by Steve Lancaster and Glyn Luznyi, the U8s Leopards, managed by Debbie Bradburn and coached by Ben Barlow and the U15s coached by Peter Hooley.
Last year’s U14s Lions have disbanded but former coach Dave Reid will continue to contribute his skills and experience by assisting with the club's U11 Stags.
Finally, the Potteries based U17 side managed by John Potts has generated another U17s side which will be called Leek Town AFC U17s.
The club is still looking for a manager/coach for the U17s Meadow Tigers as well as a manager for the projected U8 girls.
For more information contact Dennis Bates on 07770 752203.
