The allure of the new £8.5 million re-development of the Woodley Sports Centre has enabled Woodley Sports FC to attract three high profile pre-season fixtures against League and Premier League opposition. The Steelmen will complete a hefty 8 day run-in against Rochdale AFC, Stockport County FC and Blackburn Rovers FC. All three games will be contested at the Woodley Sports Centre site.

Manager, Gareth McClelland, has sought to strengthen his young side, whose average age in the last campaign was just 19.5 years! Indeed, McClelland states: “The players that I have brought in will help to develop the talented young side that we have at Woodley by bringing much needed ‘older heads’ who know what the league is about”. Closed season signings such as Chris Curly, Peter Band and Nick Boothby will bring much needed strength through the centre of the park, whilst the signing of ex-Rochdale AFC hitman Dennis Sherriff will bring goals which were, at times, lacking last season.

The Steelmen will also use the local derby game against Stockport County on the 28th July to launch their new club colours, kit and newly agreed 3 year club sponsor. Speaking about the coup of signing such a long term sponsorship, Director of Marketing and Development, Matthew Reeves, stated, “This three year deal will bring about a good level of stability for the club, something which is often difficult to find at this level. We are looking forward to working with Alchemist Training over the next three years and beyond - developing a mutually beneficial relationship which will hopefully see the club stabilised further. Alchemist Training have joined a new host of high profile sponsors which includes the exclusive kit agreement with Umbro Teamwear which will again run for at least a three year period. Whilst I may be a little biased, in my opinion, this is without doubt one of the most exciting clubs to be involved with at the moment at any level!”.
