Kendal fan makes trip from St Ives.

There aren’t many football fans for whom, when their team play at home, it happens to be one of the furthest games they have to travel to.
So when Nigel Stevenson decided last year to move to St. Ives in Cornwall, this was one fact he had to contend with.
“I’ve been following Kendal Town (or Netherfield as they were) for the last 10 years or so and really have become quite a keen fan.” explains Mr Stevenson, somewhat modestly given that every time he comes to watch his team play at the Lakeland Radio Stadium he has a round trip of just less than 850 miles.
Nigel and his wife, Anna, sold their home in Kendal at the start of 2010, yet he still managed to attend five of the home games between then and the end of the season.
“I usually come to the midweek games and stay at a friend’s house in Kendal; sometimes it is possible, to combine my trips with business meetings but sometimes I just make the trip for the football.” continues Mr Stevenson, a speciality beer consultant.
This season, Nigel’s first visit to watch Kendal Town will be on Tuesday 7th September, for the Evo-Stik Premier League fixture and the visit of North Wales side Colwyn Bay.
And Nigel’s predictions for the forthcoming season?
“I see us getting into the promotion play-offs as almost a minimum expectation for the team and I think this season we can go all the way. I also think we’re overdue a decent run in the FA Cup – you never know, if I could watch Kendal Town on TV just the once then it would make all the travelling worthwhile!”
“The only thing I really wish is that more Kendal folk would come along and watch: the standard of football really is excellent. If I come all this way to watch, I think more should come and support their local team.”
