Romulus manager Richard Evans has added a trio of new players to his squad with the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League campaign less than a fortnight away, writes Andy Mitchell.
Evans snapped up former Roms defender Richard Munday, pictured, experienced central midfielder Marlon Walters and winger Ray Facey.
Munday had a successful spell with Romulus two seasons ago before earning moves to Redditch United and Hinckley United in Conference North. The defender has been out of football for over a year following a knee injury and turned down an offer to trial back at Redditch this summer.
Walters, 28, came through the ranks at Wolverhampton Wanderers and has since plied his trade in Non-League, including spells at Hednesford Town, Redditch United, Halesowen Town and most recently Evesham United.
Left-winger Facey steps up two levels from West Midlands Premier League side Wolverhampton Casuals after impressing in pre-season and weighing in with two goals. He has also featured for Wolverhampton Sporting Community.
The signings came after two defeats in pre-season matches for the Roms this week.
Last Saturday Evans’ men lost 1-0 in the Sutton Charity Cup against Sutton Coldfield Town thanks to Matt Gardner’s 70th minute penalty. On Tuesday Redditch United won 2-0 at Coles Lane.
Evans said: "Against Sutton, we created well in the first half but it became scrappy after the break. We had our chances, but they took their one chance so fair play to them.
"We gave nine players 90 minutes and it was a good work out for us. Maybe it would have been a different result if we could have freshened it up a bit, but we wanted to give some of the lads all 90 minutes.
"Against Redditch we had one starter from Saturday’s match against Sutton and we used it as an opportunity to look at some other players.
"It was a fairly even game – they had the better of the first half and went two up before we introduced more regular players in the second half and created some chances. We should have got a draw out of it and we need to be more clinical."
