The Hednesford Town Football Club Supporters Association say they’re aiming to build on their success over last two seasons to make sure the Pitmen win promotion this time around.
Joint chairmen of the fan-run organisation - Scott Smith and Mark Goodwin - revealed today that numerous events and programmes are already in place to improve the standing of 'The Pitmen' in their local community.
Just as importantly, the duo are hoping the efforts of fans will raise extra cash for the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division club with preseason now getting under way.
Rob Smith’s team have reached the play-offs in the last three consecutive seasons and the Supporters Association believe regular fund-raising by supporters could go along way to helping Smith’s team go one better in the coming campaign.
Goodwin, a founding member of the Association back in 2010, stressed how much hard work goes into the SA behind the scenes and his confidence in the success of events planned for this campaign.
Goodwin said: "The hard work of the Committee and our members has reaped real rewards over the last couple of years and this season will be no different. The Pitmen Prize Draw is an important contributor to our funds and I encourage our members to get involved in all our other events to ensure they too are a success."
Fellow chairman, Scott Smith, is looking to concentrate on the social events as a means of raising vital funds to offer the club to complete maintenance work around Keys Park in the coming weeks.
“The social events we have organised in the past, such as the hugely successful Middlesbrough FA Cup Reunion, have helped the Club no end," he said. "This year with a Christmas Skittles Night and a Darts Night in October, when fans will be able to play against professional darts player Peter Manley, our supporters have the opportunity to get involved again and do their bit for the club."
Smith added that the SA's next big task is to organise the distribution of fixtures to local businesses which has been a great success in the past in boosting attendences and helping to attract sponsorship. While that gets underway the SA are also hoping to confirm a date for the group's now annual 'Meet the Manager' evening which will take place on or around the eve of the big kick off in August.
Keys Park will also be open to supporters this Saturday, 30 June, and again on Saturday 7 July. All are welcome to head along and join Hednesford’s maintenance team and members of the SA by grabbing a paint brush or a broom and helping to carry out improvements around the ground in preparation for the new campaign.
