Blyth Spartans are backing new fan Callum Brown to follow them for life after presenting the football mad eight-year-old with an honorary season ticket.
Earlier this month generous Spartans fans teamed up with Hednesford supporters during their match at Croft Park to raise more than £300 towards Callum’s ‘Wish To Walk’ campaign and the club say he’s been at every home match since.
The youngster has Cerebral Palsy and his family are still fundraising to reach the £50,000 target needed to send him to the USA in February for a life changing operation that doctors hope will allow him to take his first steps in life.
Spartans General Manager Ian Evans found out about Callum’s plight through his granddaughter who is in the same class at school. Evans revealed that Blyth’s newest fan is as passionate as any and that quite a few match officials would already testify to his passion since he was handed his new season ticket before Blyth’s FA Cup clash with Garforth!
Evans said: "Everybody at the club wishes Callum all the best for his operation, and we’re looking forward to seeing him and his family become regular visitors to Croft Park this season and beyond.
"I found Callum to be a very determined young guy. Determined to raise the funds needed to pay for his op, determined to get to the States in order to get his op and, if I might say, determined to get a season ticket for Croft Park!
"Ever since his visit here as a mascot I know that he has pestered his mum and dad for a return trip, something he has in fact managed for each of our home games to date. The club had no hesitation in presenting Callum with an honorary season ticket for season 2012/13. I hope he enjoys his trips to watch The Spartans."
Callum, pictured with his father Neil and Spartans midfielder Neal Hooks, is delighted with his Croft Park pass. His mum Sharon thanked everybody at the club for their help with the campaign and his season ticket.
"Callum has become a big fan and has been overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone at the Spartans who have always made him very welcome," she said.
